Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2010

After running an arduous Standard Chartered Singapore marathon in Dec 2009, I've decided to go for the marathon again in Dec 2010, and I'm all determined to be better prepared for it. Somehow the atmosphere and the energy that exudes from mass of runners is just so energising. The human spirit of encouragement runs high as everyone's cheering everyone on during the race.

and this year, I've managed to convince Ade to bring Emma for the Kids' Dash! yeh!!!! (http://www.marathonsingapore.com/Runners/KidsDash.aspx)

So here we go... 03892-SIN-FMM-OLP and 70280-SIN-KDG-OLP reporting for SCSM 2010!!

has it been almost a yr???? wow!

Realised that we’ve not blogged for close to a year! Ha. It’s been a busy year, and any free time that we have is prioritized for rest and relax. Ironically, my being on hospitalization leave this month (Mar 2010) gave me the most time to date to rest and spend time reading newspapers, articles, and catching up with my family.

I was about to prepare for an evening flight on 5 Mar, when Ade advised me to see a doc to address a “pimple” on my left thigh that grew to a rather big “pimple”, with visible redness on the surrounding skin area that measured about 10cm in diameter. Lo and behold, it was not a “pimple”, but a huge carbuncle that measured about 4x5cm in size, that started to have a bit of pus oozing out. YIKES! I went to hospital the next day, and the docs decided to ward me for I needed to be put on general anesthetic for an saucerisation procedure to remove the carbuncle and any infected skin on my left thigh. Did the op on 7 Mar, and had to undergo another op on 12 Mar, and this time under the hands of an aesthetic surgeon to shift some healthy skin tissue from the surrounding area from the former carbuncle site, to cover the wound and speed up healing. Well, there you go, my first ever experience undergoing “plastic surgery”. Haha! Well, thank God both operations went well, and I’m now on the road to recovery. The stitches have yet to be removed, and the swelling that resulted from the tissue shift in the 2nd op would take a couple of months to subside. At the last doc’s appt on wed, the aesthetic doc said I could start running again after the stitches are removed, and as he was about to move away, he turned and asked “or have you already started running?”… haha.. I’m not sure if I’m looking any bit of a runner now, especially after 3 weeks of layoff from running. Haha. Anyway, lesson learnt: don't take "pimples" lightly.. u never know how malicious and toxic they might become if they fester under the skin for too long!

Anyway, I’m thankful for this time of rest. I watched my little princess Emma as I spent time at home with her and Ade. Watching her mannerisms, her playful antics, her verbal responses, her prancing around and dancing around, just made me realize that Emma’s no longer the 2-yr old little baby Emma 6 months ago. Oh how much she’s grown in that short 6 months. She’s really a little girl now. Going through her 1-2 yrs old photos further brought me to this realization. Ade and I are thinking whether to send her to child-care, enrichment classes, or the likes. But looking at Emma as she is now, we are pretty much decided to send her for some dance classes, for her to have fun prancing around, and mingle with other kids. I think the “A-B-Cs” and “1-2-3s” can wait a few yrs more. I’m sure she’ll enjoy her childhood more doing the things she loves. Just play a little nice catchy pop music jingle that you’d find in any of the advertisements on TV, and Emma’ll just start gyrating, and making smooth shoulder and arm movements to the beat. Now, don’t ask us where she got her dancing genes from. It’s definitely not from Ade, nor me. =)
